» MOL Develops World's First Portable Liquid-Level Guage for Ballast Tanks

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, has announced that MOL and Musashino Co., Ltd. have jointly developed the word’s first portable liquid-level gauge for vessel ballast tanks. The gauge measures the level of ballast water (seawater) in a tank by dropping a portable measuring tube into the sounding tube of the ballast tank. A sensor detects air pressure changes in the tube and quickly measures the ballast water level.

Cargotec has been awarded an order for four Kalmar ESC350W straddle carriers from Ports America. The new Edrive® units will help the customer handle increasing cargo volumes at its Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) facility. Delivery of the machines will commence in second quarter 2010.

» Panalpina Handles Samsung Ocean Freight and Warehousing

Samsung Panama has selected Panalpina to handle most of their FCL (full container load) ocean freight traffic from Asia-Pacific to Panama in 2010. Samsung estimates to handle 1’500 to 2’000 TEU’s with Panalpina this year. In addition, Samsung has awarded Panalpina a three-year extension contract for their warehouse operation in the Colon free trade zone with approximately 8’000 sqm.
