Bolloré Logistics Portugal has transported more than 25,000 solar panels to construct a 7.5 megawatts (MW) renewable energy power plant in Burundi. Carried out in synergy with the Bolloré Logistics teams in Portugal and Burundi, this operation took place in several stages over a period of only four months.

A total of 150 TEU containers were transported by sea from several ports in Asia and Europe to Dar es Salaam and were then carried by road via a 1,400 km corridor connecting the Tanzanian coast to the Mubuga site, which is located 100 km from the capital Bujumbura, in the Gitega province in eastern Burundi.

Headed up by the multinational Gigawatt Global, this project was awarded Project of the Year 2020 by EEP Africa, the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund in Africa. It will increase the country’s electricity production by around 15%.

Romeo Da Silva, CEO of Bolloré Logistics Portugal, commented: “Bolloré Logistics is proud to have been able to contribute to the completion of this large-scale project which aims to supply energy to approximately 90,000 people and companies in Burundi.”

To support the development of renewable energies, Bolloré Logistics has set up a network of specialists whose mission is to coordinate and manage all industrial projects and a dedicated offer to meet the market’s needs. This includes support and advice for companies, designing tailor-made transport solutions, and managing end-to-end operations via an integrated information system that provides complete visibility and control throughout the supply chain.
